Hendrickson Method®

The Hendrickson Method® includes massage strokes (designed specifically for the release of soft tissue based on their unique anatomical structure), joint mobilization, and muscle energy techniques (METs).  I use this method to manage conditions related to orthopedic pain and injury.  This highly effective method is applicable whether the pain or dysfunction is acute or chronic, or whether the conditions arose from an injury, cummulative stress, or degenerative conditions.  Treatment "dissolves adhesions and lengthens the connective tissues.  It helps normalize muscle function by reducing hypertonicity in the muscles and strengthening inhibited and weak muscles.  It normalizes the position of the soft tissue and releases its torsion.  It helps restore normal joint function by restoring natural lubrication, range of motion, and normal biomechanics.  It releases trapped peripheral nerves.  And it facilitates normal neurological function through re-education of the nervous system through...(MET), a system of manual therapy that uses active participation of the client." (Massage for Orthopedic Conditions, 2003 Thomas Hendrickson, DC, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins)

Muscle Energy Techniques (MET)

"Muscle energy techniques are a class of soft tissue osteopathic (originally) manipulation methods that incorporate precisely directed and controlled, patient initiated, isometric and/or isotonic contractions, designed to improve musculoskeletal function and reduce pain." (Muscle Energy Techniques by Leon Chaitow, 2006 Elsevier Limited)

Orthopedic Massage

Orthopedic massage is a style of massage therapy focused on treating painful conditions that affect the soft tissues of the body. Because orthopedic massage is designed to treat medical conditions, it requires extensive training. It involves releasing tense muscles, helping to stretch and lengthen tight muscles and tendons, and decompress rigid joints. The goal is to restore full health to the soft tissues of the body, both treating specific conditions as well as improving overall well-being.
